About Huntingdon VFW Teener League
The Huntingdon VFW Teener League provides organized competitive baseball opportunities for youth in the Huntingdon area. Established in 1954, the league has remained a longstanding part of the community, offering structured summer play and regional tournament competition for local athletes.
The Huntingdon VFW Teener League proudly operates in affiliation with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, reflecting a longstanding commitment to community service and youth development.
For more than seven decades, the program has reflected the community's commitment to teamwork, discipline, and organized athletics while maintaining a strong local tradition.
Baseball in Huntingdon expanded in the early 1950s, and the first full season of VFW Teener League baseball was played in 1954. In the decades that followed, the league earned multiple Area Five championships and hosted the Pennsylvania State Teener Tournament on several occasions.
Originally using facilities at Juniata College, the league later moved to its permanent home along Route 22 in Huntingdon. That field became VFW Memorial Park, where early improvements included a press box, permanent bleachers, dugouts, and fencing. In recent years, continued investment has added a new scoreboard and a lighting system that allows for night games.
Today, the Huntingdon VFW Teener League is supported by volunteer leadership, dedicated managers and coaches, and community sponsors. The league emphasizes sportsmanship, accountability, competitive development, and respect for the game while providing a structured and supportive environment for young athletes.
The continued success of the Huntingdon VFW Teener League depends on the involvement of families, volunteers, and local businesses. Community sponsorship and support help sustain the program, maintain facilities, and ensure that opportunities remain available for future generations of players.
